2021 Recruiting Tips: 4 Job Postings to Attract Diversity
September 8th, 2021
In 2021, one of the best practices for hiring top talent is to build an inclusive company culture. Top talent today is seeking workplaces that embrace diversity every day and in their hiring practices. Recruiting in 2021 will require most employers to seek out more diverse applicant pools. One of the most impactful recruiting tips for employers seeking to hire for diversity is to add language that encourages diverse applicants to job postings. MP’s HR services team shares four additions for job postings that will attract more diverse applicants, as well as tips for the most effective use of this language.
4 Additions to Job Postings that Increase Diversity
1.“[COMPANY NAME] is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. [COPANY NAME] encourages all qualified candidates to apply, including those of any race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.”
2.“[COMPANY NAME] has committed to promoting racial, gender, economic, and LGBTQ+ justice in the workplace.”
3.“This position is a “Fair Chance” job, and we encourage candidates with a criminal record to apply.”
4. “[COMPANY NAME] encourages candidates with “lived experience” to apply.”
Tips for Using this Language
Employers should add this language to the end of a job posting, usually after a blank space or two. Perhaps most importantly, HR and hiring managers must use these words to guide the recruiting process. Employers should emphasize preventing discrimination and unconscious bias in their training for hiring managers and their HR and recruiting team members. If the language encouraging diverse candidates is only symbolic, a wider pool of candidates will still lead to the same hires– and a workplace that sorely lacks diversity and equality. Eventually, as they compete with workplaces that have flourishing Diversity and Equity Initiatives (DEI), these workplaces will experience difficulty attracting and retaining the employees they need to help them reach their business goals.
